Client Settlement Funds: How It Works
All client settlement funds are deposited into our dedicated Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Account (IOLTA). More specifically:
- We never commingle client money with the firm’s operating funds.
- We maintain individual ledger records for each client, and we track every deposit, disbursement, and all outstanding balances in real time.
- Trust accounts are reconciled monthly — not just internally, but also against bank statements — to confirm accuracy across all records.
- No funds are ever released without a multi-step financial review process to ensure 100% accuracy.
In fact, before any disbursement is made, our audit team confirms all medical bills, liens, fees, and costs with the client in writing. That’s after they’ve negotiated all your medical bills to ensure we’re maximizing your settlement.
Our system is built for accountability: every client receives a detailed closing statement and a full explanation of how their settlement money is being distributed.
California Attorneys & the CTAPP
Under CTAPP, California attorneys are required to annually report their compliance with trust accounting rules and may be subject to audit. At Eugene Bruno & Associates, we not only meet those standards — we exceed them.
